Using AI appeals for AI denials
Health insurance companies are using artificial intelligence to automate care denials, and now patients and entrepreneurs are fighting back using that same technology, my colleague Casey Ross reports.
Holden Karau created FightHealthInsurance.com to help patients and doctors fight insurance denials, after her insurer, UnitedHealthcare, wouldn’t cover her physical therapy. Karau’s product, which is open source and free, first asks patients to upload a denial letter and fill in other details. Then the AI tool drafts appeal letters, which patients can choose and edit before firing off to their insurer.
